Clarendon School District One’s Statement regarding Social Media Challenges

Due to the national scare regarding recent social media challenges, Clarendon School District One has taken increased steps to monitor its online platforms on school campuses.  In addition, administration has been proactive in educating its staff on monitoring students with their own devices as well as warning parents of these social media challenges when students are away from school.

There are characters known to allegedly target young children by encouraging them to text a number on WhatsApp, which then sends them instructions to complete a series of increasingly bizarre and dangerous tasks from watching a horror movie to engaging in self-harm.

The scare has recently hit YouTube and YouTube Kids where a public warning has been issued.

At CSD1, the district’s network administrators monitor activity from YouTube and YouTube Kids channels consistently. Any malicious and/or inappropriate activity will be blocked from our network. We also encourage parents/guardians to take precautions at home and monitor your children when they are away from school.
